Laser rangefinder manufacturers are no different than other businesses as each of them have their own niche and try to supply the best product for their price point. Some laser rangefinders are going to be budget and bare-bones yet functional, while others are going to be high end, high-tech and slightly higher priced.

The Leupold GX-5i3 rangefinder is an example of the latter. Sleek, lightweight and compact like many rangefinders, this new Leupold rangefinder is like the Cadillac of its kind in all of the bells and whistles it has to offer as well as its overall quality.

Features & Benefits

Optics and Display

Possibly the first thing that will jump out to you is the crystal-clear optics and bright, vibrant display that Leupold Golf brought to the table with the Leupold GX-5i3 golf rangefinder. With a crisp and bold OLED display screen, you should have no problem reading the accurate measurements it provides out on the course.

You should have no trouble ranging objects that are smaller or off in the distance with the same amount of accuracy as if it were right there in front of you. The screen is bright and clear and holds up to glare or the bright sun.

The optically pleasing 6x magnification also does wonders to make the Leupold Gx-5i3 how accurate it is. No matter how much you punch in and magnify it, you are still going to keep a wide field of view unlike some other rangefinders out there.

If you stack up the optics of the Leupold GX-5i3 vs Bushnell pro x2, a similar competitor, you’ll probably find that the magnification is exactly the same while the Leupold GX-5i3 has more clarity and field of view.

Pinhunter

The speed and accuracy of measurements is what makes or breaks a golf laser rangefinder. One thing that you will come across in most Leupold Golf rangefinder reviews is praise over the speed of their pin locking technology. This rangefinder review is no exception as I find the Pinhunter tech to be the most key feature.

Fast and accurate, Leupold’s Pinhunter technology is fast, accurate and their best effort yet. An improvement over the GX-1i and GX2i, Leupold Golf upped their game with their Pinhunter tech by measuring the pin up to 450 yards.

This provides more than enough yardage on any golf course, but also gives some of the fastest measurements of any golf laser rangefinder that I have ever gotten to use.

Club Selector

Another unique and fun feature that Leupold Golf has brought to the table with the Leupold GX-5i3 rangefinder is the Club Selector function. As a golfer, I’m sure you have noticed that many rangefinders fall somewhat short in that they are not able to let you choose between clubs even though that should be a no-brainer as it makes all the difference.

The Leupold GX-5i3 rangefinder is an exception to this little issue. Leupold Golf added a much welcome Club Selector feature that lets you swap between clubs and make appropriate recommendations and measurements accordingly. With this distance measuring device, you enter your typical shot distances for the 8,6 and 4 irons, then allow Leupold Golf’s tech to do the math and give you accurate recommendations for your other clubs and what to expect out of them.

Prism Lock Technology

What good would a golf laser rangefinder be if you couldn’t get an accurate lock on the pin, or more importantly, if it doesn’t really let you know when you are locked onto the pin. Part of what makes this laser rangefinder so user friendly is how it goes about letting you know that you are on target.

The Leupold GX-5i3 golf rangefinder eliminates the guesswork by giving you an audible feedback when you are locked in eliminating any guesswork that takes you out of the moment. A Better yet, you’ll see that it freezes the distance on the screen when you have what you need in range.

If you have tried out other laser rangefinders, then you get what I mean when I say that clear, user-friendly pin lock technology is the bread and butter of a good laser rangefinder. The Prism Lock tech that is built into the device is a welcome bonus.

Ease of Use

There are several little features in this rangefinder that contribute to it being an easy to use, essential rangefinder. Their One Touch Scan Mode which can give you multiple measurements and fast with one touch of the power button keeps you up to date without having to continuously request more info.

Leupold Golf also has done us a favor with the much-appreciated Fog Mode. With the climate around me, I have found Fog Mode invaluable. Fog Mode cuts through inclement weather such as rain and fog and lets you maintain the speed and precision of its measurements.

The fold down rubber eyecups are also comfortable, easy and can be tucked down if you are wearing glasses or shades. Leupold Golf also gives us a little peace of mind knowing that the rubber and aluminum constructed body makes this bad boy resistant to the water.
